COVID-19 Match Procedure

Following the relaxation of the lock-down rules and the permitted re-start of match fishing we will be implementing these procedures to keep the participants and volunteers safe during match days, it is the individual’s responsibility to maintain 2m safe social distancing at all times and use hand sanitation.

Pools Competition

There will be no pools competition at this time until there is a safe way to exchange funds without the risk of cross contamination.

The Draw

Pegging out will be done in the usual manner and the pegs selected will be placed in the draw-bag, the person who takes ownership of these draw tokens will randomly select individuals from the second bag of anglers present and then a peg token for that angler from the draw-bag at the pre-match chat and they will be recorded by the person who will record the weights at the weigh-in.

Once you have a peg number go to your peg and try and maintain a safe 2m area around your tackle and access areas, please consider pedestrians if the pathways are narrow.

Weigh-in

This will comprise of 2 people, The Bucket Man and the Weight Recorder. The bucket man will place the weigh-in bucket in a safe 2m area, the angler will then tip the fish into the weigh bucket and then step 2m back allowing the bucket man to place the bucket on the scales, he and only he will shout the recorded weight to the weight recorder before returning the fish and replacing the bucket in the safe 2m area if multi weighs are required.

Lose fish and removal of fish due to over maximum for scales will be done by the bucket man.

Following the scales around the weigh-in is not permitted.

Results

The preliminary individual top 3 will be txt to everyone at the end of the day together with an image of the weigh-in sheet, the formal results will be posted on the website in due course as normal.

General

Please be patient during this process, it will take longer than normal but be mindful it is for the safety of the members and their families that we take these rules onboard.

Casual bank walking during the match should be for purpose only not for a chat.

Maintain the 2m safe distance and avoid cross-contamination, as the COVID-19 situation develops we will continue to review our best practice.

Tunnel Barn 08-03-2020 The Rise of Aqua-Man

Good turnout of 17 anglers for the 1st match of the 2020 season, weather was chilly and there had been a lot of rain leading up to the match so expectations wasn’t high. Top pool at Tunnel is quite interesting with sections of the lake offering different aspects and swims, would be an interesting lake for the summer maybe although Tunnel Barn is proving quite expensive for our 20 member club if we want lake exclusivity.

Tunnel Barn 08-03-2020

Everyone had prepared well for this match, not in fishing terms but cleanly shaven, hair combed and best bib and tucker because our new “Club Photographer” was in da house!! Unfortunately he forgot to bring it or as was found out later didn’t want to get it dirty so its back to the phone camera for our resident “David Bailey”

Tunnel Barn 08-03-2020

The match started with nobody showing any real activity and this was the case for the first hour or so……..but then, Team Dennahay deployed their new tactic, and Denny Jnr pressed the ejector button on Denny Snr’s (“Aqua Man”) seat box causing him to go snorkeling in the margin checking for signs of fish. After dragging him (note still had his fag in his gob) he was given dry clothes and warmed up before returning to his peg, we took at least 3 carp out of his pockets prior to his return. But seriously if you do slip in and are struggling give anyone a shout, wellies are like lead blocks when they are full of water and the cold doesn’t take long to bite, we are club of mates and everybody is there to help.

Tunnel Barn 08-03-2020

El Presedente won the match off peg 8 with 37.50Lbs fishing at 6m on Fluro Pinkie over micros and down the edge on 4mm expander over micro

Denny 2nd Place Tunnel Barn 08-03-2020

2nd Place went to Denny the Chimp who started early on corn at 2 plus 2 then moving to expander and feeding pellets to return 31.60Lbs of Peg 25

Tunnel Barn 08-03-2020

Third place was snapped up by last years winner Hamper John off peg 2 with a weight of 20.05Lbs fishing expander over pellet.

4th Place was taken by Poncey off peg 15 with 14.80 and section prizes went to Lurpack and Taff

So a mixed start to the season but big thanks to Taff, Worms, Denny, Matt, Hamper and Poncey for your work on the day which makes it more enjoyable for all.

Peatling Match Lakes – Lake A – 09-06-18

Firstly thanks to Taff, Worms, Hamper and No Barra for your work on and before the day without the efforts of these people matchday would be a bit of a farce.

The defending trophy holder “End Peg” Roy Ravenhill was unable to defend his crown because he is due to take his beautiful wife Elaine up the aisle in Vegas 🙂 On behalf of the club we wish you both every happiness in your future together.

Small and perfectly formed

Following everyone going out and buying additional nets on the advice of the fishery owner there was some hyperactivity on eBay that evening selling off said nets because the venue didn’t produce the monster weights everyone anticipated but generally the venue was well received with good weights caught all around, well almost everywhere.

Bring ya veggie stuff Al I will cook it in Pig fat

I was on the scrounge for a lift due to being picked up after the match because I was to going to fancy London for a few beers with Mincemeat (remember him) and Robin kindly offer to pick me up, “bring some of that no meat crap you eat and I will cook you brekkie” he said, so I happily got my Vegan sausages and some toms and mushies. Robin wasted no time in feeding the 5000 and I think anyone who was hungry got fed from the “Red Van of Plenty” but I have to mention mate the idea of being a veggie is not have your veggie delights cooked in Pig fat !! But… it was delicious and I won’t breathe a word to the Vegan Police.

Following the usual Chairmans speech, there was a point of order to be discussed about some recent misdirections on data sharing which the Big Fella was happy to communicate in the style in which it was written.

The fine English gentleman even had time to doth the quill and help out with the weigh in.

The match was a won by Mick Drew with 78:95 fishing down the edge on corn off peg 29 on the pole, obviously cheered on by the Big Fella off peg 29 who finished second with 66:50 narrowly beating his love crush Denny who fished peg 32 for 62:00 with our resident poet Matt HMP Shakespear finishing 4th off peg 37 for 58:20 with sections to Mick Edwards and Gavin Young.

Shout to Mark Causer who took my biggest fish lead away with a splendid 11:60 Carp, sorry I didn’t take a photo Mark, not sour grapes honest.

All in all a good day full of laughter and always banter, which at the end of the day is what it’s all about.

All the match results are available on the website.

Lower Park – Park Pool – 12-04-18

Firstly thanks to Taff, Worms, Hamper and No Barra for your work on and before the day without the efforts of these people matchday would be chaos.

Last years trophy winner Darran “Semi Pro” Mills was on hand to defend his crown

A matching Gag would have been nice

Adroit take Health and Safety for its members very seriously and following some early retreats of “The Big Fella” which had nothing to do with him catching fook all so it was assumed it could only be down to the cold, Mick “No Barra” Drew kindly got him some thermal ear warmers to keep fishing for the full match duration, if only he’d got us all a pair so we didn’t hear TBF all match 🙂

There was some serious rule breaching going on pre-match with Gary “The Villian” Hampshire prebaiting his swim then saying he accidentally knocked his bait in while setting up, good try Gaz but 6 pints of maggots all cupped in? eyes are on you for future matches

Country Files – Presented by Mick Edwards

As the match got underway it was apparent that Worms and Rumbold fancied a stroll around the lake covering the fact by a series of long casts to the island to retrieve their feeders, the industrial language heard following the congratulations from the other Adroit members on their casting abilities was a little upsetting given what shy retiring characters we all are.

Worms then went on to give everyone an alternative lesson on landing a fish

The Chimp or The Gimp as he’s known in Skeggy with his 35:20Lbs 1st Place

The match was won by Mark “The Chimp” Dennahay fishing Pellett in the Margin to record an excellent 35:20

2nd placed was bagged my Mark “Bru” Butterworth fishing red meat and pellet feeder to the far bank returning 16:40, El Presidente finished 3rd with 13:70 on soft pellet

Not every day you get a photo with a 10lb Carp and Harry Hill

which was helped by this 10:40 Lbs munter at the end and register the first “Biggest Fish” of the season.

Mick the fish grabbed 4th place with 13:15 with pellet off the far bank with sections to Hamper John and Matt HMP Holloway.

A Tattoo would save on Fluro paint costs

Gaz “The Spod” Sadler continued his campaign to be all all-time Bini champion by recording his first of the season.

I think everyone is looking forward to warmer days ahead and some better days on the box, but lets never forget why we do it and the happy memories we are creating.

All the match results are available on the website.

Tunnel Barn – Extension Pool – 11-03-18

Slippery Nipple revenge is HMP Puking or looking for worms pre-match

The first match of the new season and the cafe at Tunnel was full of bright-eyed Villa fans revelling in the win the day before over the Dingles, some of the younger fans may have overdone the celebrations the night before and was a little queezy before the whistle blaming Taff and Poncey for buying him a slippery nipple in the pub, golden rule Matt … never mix your drinks or only put anti-slip nipples in your mouth 🙂

The venue looked in fair shape on the back of the recent cold weather and the usual telephone number weights were on the board in the cafe from previous matches just to really put the pressure on.

Calm before the Storm

It was a good turn out with 19 fishing the match with Stormin Norman making it a round 20 attending so thank you everyone for the support.

Thanks also to Hamper, No Barra, Taff and Worms for your work on the day.

The first match also saw the preliminary round of the Individual knockout with 8 head to heads to be fished to reduce the field to 16 and the remaining spare places were drawn in the cafe pre-match, results and the ongoing draws for the Individual and Pairs can be view below

Individual Knockout

Pairs Knockout

Despite the best efforts of Worms to break the scales before the weigh-in we did get the emergency set to work and the club scales have been fixed for the next match.

The match didn’t set the world on fire regarding weights but saw Craig Williams “The Big Fella” come out in 1st place with a fine 16:06Lbs fishing Maggot down the edge and shallow on his long line in front so well done TBF, nice to see him smile after his hungover face pre-match.

Mick Edwards replicated last years performance finishing 2nd with a mixed bag delivering 11:44Lbs getting his season off to a good start while eyeballing Mark “Denny” Dennahay throughout the match who managed an excellent 3rd with 8:19Lbs in a peg which resembled an African drain.

4th place was tied between Matt “HMP” Holloway and Mark “Bru” Butterworth both weighing 8:12Lbs, while deciding how the position should be decided our suggestion of a synchronized naked swim was soon discounted and they very generously agreed to split the 4th place money leaving the sections prizes to be claimed in full by Neil “Lurpak” Butterworth and John “Hamper” Hodson, well done Bru and HMP excellent sportsmanship.

The only thing I got feeding in my peg all day was Mt & Mrs Mallard but the usual scenario of bites coming late was a typical reflection on my day going with the wrong method of dead whites on a 2 plus 2 line for far too long before changing to my top 2 on corn and pellet to return 6:20Lbs

So all that was left to look forward to was the banter in the Durham Ox Pub but even that pleasure was denied as it had been closed so no other option but to head home to the Red Lion and reflect and practice some new methods for next time.

Got more bites here

See ya next match, Tight lines

Tunnel Barn Farm – New Pool – 03-12-17

Match Section

Another decent turnout for December with 18 hardy souls expectant at the draw on a relatively mild day, to what it had been earlier in the week.

The complex had been fishing very hard all over even for the seasoned Open anglers. However, as there was a new top of the range Audi Quattro up for grabs for our little old clubs winner our resident OVER PRACTICER “Hamper” John decided he needed to hone his skills, get an edge, and fish a few days before on Friday 1st December 😉 hehehehe

The expletives were numerous from his buddy and Mick No barrow swore for 10 minutes and never said the same word twice, followed by the immortal line we only fishing for a *$%£*%$ Curry for %$&*$ sake……..

Bindi watch was a concern to many, and an early settler of nerves was required

In 1st place was myself just out in front from peg 24 with 18lbs dead consisting of 4 x decent carp dobbing bread far bank at 16mtrs plus 3 x silvers down track

In 2nd place was the OVER PRACTICING PENSIONER Hamper John Hodson on peg 4 with 14lb 2ozs of F1s and some silvers from ¾ way across on maggot mainly to show that practice does help

Just behind in 3rd place was the consistent F1 angler Denny the Chimp on peg 1 who had so many features/islands surrounding in front of him it was like the Maldives…. Maggot again was the prominent bait for his F1s to throw 12-14 ½ on the weigh sling.

4th place and another regular framer this year was Mark “Catmeat” Causer from towards other end of the lake on peg 33 with 12lb 1ozs

5th place but (4th by default) was the other over practicer Mick “No Barrow” on peg 35 who weighed in 9lb 13ozs for another white envelope. These anglers permanently subsidised by the state are getting very hard to beat with the time they can put into their fishing 😉

The 1st section was won by Mick “The Fish” Horton from peg 17 with 7lb 7ozs (2 x decent carp) with the 2nd section being won by Gavin “The Shotgun” Young with 8lb 11ozs from peg 41 who are both getting regular drags nowadays!!

Banter & Funny Occurrences

Well, the Bindi count come the end of the match was sat at just 2 x anglers!!! which is pretty good to what it could have been.

Alan prior to wrapping his new box up hehehe

“Taff” Tony has definitely not been in the crosshairs recently of a Bindi, however, the other one Gaz “The Spod” Sadler has a shiny new box bought by his BRO for his 60th with a definite HEX on it……

However, as its almost Christmas your friendly Santa decided to bring Xmas cheer and the Bindi painting would be excused for 1 x match only….

Ho Ho Ho!

Tunnel Barn Farm has recently had a profits surge due to being able to restock the shops feeders and floats and resell them twice once they have been around the New Pool to peg 13 to retrieve and undress the adorned tree

My Match Good or Bad Result

I’ve had a number of early baths recently well before the end of the match, so to just be STILL there at the end was the primary target.

Roy “End Peg” Ravenhill was out in front on the Individual Club Trophy with a 6point cushion due to winning 3 x club matches early on in the season so a high result and a BIG portion of luck was order of the day to have any chance

I started on maggot down the track but also fed a separate micro pellet line fed tentatively but cut short I was going nowhere with only a few silvers. Mid-match I saw a decent fish turn twice 20 mins apart but each time it was on far bank line halfway between myself on peg 24 and Worms on 27 (no bait been fed)

With this, I decided it was large bait dobbing bread across or 2-3 mags looking for the decent F1s stamp. I had just 5 x bites in total fishing long but the bonus was the 4 landed were carp plus I lost an F1 so an incredibly lucky match win.

A clean sweep on the grudge silly quids from Denny/Saddle Sore/No Barrow!

Not only that but when I returned back to the draw Roy had finished 9th and I had literally nicked it overall by 2 points and got out of jail at the death. Sorry Roy, I could so easily have bombed out!

Other Info:

The match report has been enjoyable feature writing it for the last 3 seasons for the club with good feedback from members, however, I’ve told Alan this would be the last report I can do personally – as I’m busy with other stuff.

Fisherwick Lakes – Match Lake – 04-11-17

First and foremost this was a day to reflect on a former valued member who not too long ago passed away after many years within Adroit’s angling club. A few words were opened at the start by our Chairman Alan Sadler, and looking around it was clear to see it brought back memories to many members who knew him for many many years….

Match Section

This was a well attended match with 20 fishing and jeesh did we have some rain in the night! My dad was as per usual chucking feathers and whipping the water into a froth at another lake on the complex.

Ever wondered why Trout anglers wear hats and shades…..

However no Bindi 1 x trout will be making the plate!

In first place was myself on peg 24 with a good draw plus a short walk to boot putting 40lb 12ozs of carp and a solitary skimmer on scales. 3 x carp on waggler overdepth, 3 x carp on pole, and 7-8 carp on tip with mainly pellet was enough on a frustrating day.

In 2nd place was Mark “Catmeat” Causer on corner peg 1 with 33lb 15ozs who caught steadily but had lost a few off the hook on the day according to reports but he still managed to be 2 ounces clear of 3rd place at the finish. Well done!

Just behind on peg 31 opposite was Alf Norgrove who caught on the tip to a bare bit of the island, the end of Island or way over to the right of his peg for 33lb 13ozs and 3rd.

Although the corners tend to fish ok, for some unknown reason peg 31 very rarely produces nowadays even in the Opens and was one of the pegs I certainly didn’t want (or peg 3) so on that basis  goes to Alf! The other saving grace was by default he picked up 2nd place out the pools and is now two frames on the trot! Congratz

In 4th place (3rd by default) was Ben “The Student” Taylor with 26lb 4ozs from another surprise from peg 3 so that’s his Xmas dinner flavoured Pot Noddle sorted and a bit less trimmings and stuffing required from his dad s refined bone China plates 😉 Top Bombing

In 5th place (4rd by default) was our overpracticing Pensioner none other than Rob “Worms” Ivison on peg 26 with 25lb 2ozs all caught on the tip I believe and pellet

The sections then played out with the 1st section being won by Mick Drew on peg 6 with 20lbs 15ozs and the 2nd section being won by Roy Ravenhill on peg 21 with 18lb 2ozs.

Banter & Funny Occurences

Prior to the match and over the previous few weeks at Fisherwick my new VELOCERAPTOR MK3 “SEEANANGLERINDISGUISE Drone alerts have been going off…

Roy ”End Peg” Ravenhill, Hamper John, and Mick No Barrow Drew were picked up not only at obscure times but also dressed as various aliases to fool the drone

However dragging an Octbox 36 in high heels at 6.30am for a quick 3-4 hours eating 5-6 picnics, 6 x sarnies, 2 x sausage rolls, a chicken leg, bag of nuts and a diet coke is fooling no one…… I will get to the bottom of it John 😉

The add on Squirrel worrier  mode for Veloceraptor Mk3 yesterday was in fine form and Gavin, Roy, Alan trying to eradicate these pesky tree hugging critters……

However as anglers are such lovers of wildlife I can confess that myself, HMP Holloway, Mick the Fish, End Peg Roy and Worms Ivison were busy taking umbrage at the feathered variety that were intent on fattening up for Xmas on everyones high protein margin lines.

There was many a commotion as the water was whipped to a similar froth to Norms with landing net handles hehehehe

On peg 6 not intent on watching his float NOT move like most of us he took the ample opportunity to try and rub his eye inside out and by the end of the match it was heavily swollen and looked like he had been 12 rounds with Anthony Joshua…..

Klitschko after 12

Unmarked Mick Drew – Peg 6

Lastly for those of you who like a punt someone also got a DOUBLE UP at the weekend

A new box for his 60th but two matches on trot

It aint Hammer time doo dooo doo dooo its FLOURO BINDI TIME! Well done Gaz 😊

Apparently he’s potentially serving us now at the Christmas Curry bash in Boldemere

My Match Good or Bad Result

At start I was happy with my draw on peg 24 as it does get fished being a short walk and night before I’d stated several pegs I fancied listing pegs 1/8/9/10/16/17/24/25/26

It didn’t fish great possibly due to the recent overnight rain and I found you had to ring the changes with 1-2 fish then seemed devoid with nothing at all but if you tried something else and rested a line you could go back to it and you would nick odd fish etc

I caught on pellet and until 2.30pm I felt I’d fished tidy as I hadn’t lost a fish but then disaster I lost 2 carp on trot and felt sure it would cost me in a low weight affair.

From the 8-9 anglers I could see around me or opposite you could tell weights were down

Margin Hunter, my neighbour Mick The Fish for the day

Including another bloke with all this lot!! Fosters?

Full house on the grudge matches with a quid gained from Mick“ The Pensioner” Drew, Denny The Chimp, plus also Alan Whicker I mean Sadler

Moira Furnace – Ashby Canal – 07-10-17

Well it was definitely a change but what can I say? we did a river match a few years back and this proved to be a very low turnout, and this time a shade disappointing again with only 16 fishing this match for lowest turnout in 2017 by far for the club.

I can see why to a certain extent as canals are not as “angler friendly” with stretched out pegging with long walks, and major weed and leaf issues in places making it almost unfishable at times in the match.

However hardy souls we are and there was some fish to be caught with bonus fish in places as well with a number of decent fish lost in the weed etc

The day started off well and some even had their brekkies cooked by the chefs on the bank…….

leave you to guess who was who?

Match Section

Overall for a canal it fished pretty good as in many places in the country 4lb plus puts you in the main frame and rarely do double figures weights take the day.

However someone never told Mick “The fish” Horton we were doing a canal! and he soon got it sussed feeding the margins and hooking and landing 2-3 carp and losing some good uns as well. He actually watched one carp hoover up his worm hookbait and swim off LOL

Top Angling Mick Well Deserved!

Mick was on peg 28 and he was way out in front at the finish with 12lb 10ozs and it’s always nice to see another angler at the top of the leader-board

2nd place was Adam “Turps” Tarrington peg 24 who was staring down the barrel of a Bindi and the face painters were on standby with 6 inch brushes. However with just 15 minutes to go his float finally buried and a nice carp 7lb 8ozs graced the onion sack to snatch a frame.

3rd place was Rob “Worms” Ivison near to top end on peg 33 who did it completely other way with loads of smaller silver fish in his net for 7lb 10ozs.

“Alf” was wrapped up warm Saturday!

4th place was Pete “Alf” Norgrove on peg 14 who had 6lb 7ozs of silvers caught on pole and

maggot and although he’s not a regular framer it’s good to see a bit back in the sky rocket and a bit of glory as he still enjoys his fishing. Pete like Worms probably had the most fish on the day – just a lot smaller ones.

The 1st section went 8 upto peg 24 so scraping in from the top end was Alan “Saddle Sore” Sadler who mustered 5lb 1ozs to grab an envelope.

Brian Dennahay took the honours for 2nd section off end peg 35 with 5lb 5ozs, however it must of been date night for him as he was off like Lewis Hamilton and nowhere to be seen at the days presentation at the end LOL. 😉

Banter & Funny Occurences

This was the most subdued I’ve seen it but only because everyone was so spread out you couldn’t even talk to the person in your next peg…..

However I do have it on good authority that The Chairman at the start who was meticulous in letting people know that for this match there was going to be 2 x sets of scales going around at the weigh in and everyone weighed in from the ends and “did everyone understand how it works?”

The answer is obviously not as after the match who would turn up (cough cough The Chairman) at the middle of section with scales to weigh in the wrong section. Hehehehehe Hamper was in bits……

My Match Good or Bad Result

I was on peg 11 and returned 4lb 4ozs on pole and maggot mainly, only a few on soft pellet and overall again I was quite happy with how I fished. I was on a slight bend and the weed was an absolute nightmare I fed a number of lines but on 2-3 lines I never even saw these again as it was choked up and never moved…

The following pictures sum up why canals are less popular and others had weed issues but at one point I just looked at my swim and couldn’t even get a line into the water in front of me and I had to land my silvers over top of surface weed.

The good news is on the grudge matches I gained a quid off Mick“ The Pensioner” Drew, plus a quid gained off The Chimp by just 3 ozs and 2ozs LOL. However Alan Sadler gained a quid back so not to bad.

Night Out

Evening stop over was a decent night out in Ashby de La Zouch for the seven that stayed overnight and plenty of beers were taken.

Gaz early doors….

Come on Gaz, its time for bed!

I only popped “in” for a warm… 😉

Kojak, Ghandi, and David Bellamy

I only asked “where did it go wrong”

Woodlands View – Front Deans – 10-09-17

Match Report

This is a Lake at venue that we should have fished before, however last time after feedback it all went a bit Pete Tong and we never. The lake had been in good form recently but with gusting wind plus another good turnout (19 anglers) meant pegging was tight, and results were slightly lower than anticipated

Our Revered Chairman

It was nice to see the Chairman appear at the start and introduce himself to members. He is the middle one of the 3 in photo without the dishonourable “Bindi” from blanking at sea fishing in Lanzarote

PS “Spot the difference” in this photo to the last photo on match report?

Match Section

Overall it fished decent in conditions with almost 700lbs of fish caught averaging 38lb plus per angler and a pretty close match with some decent fish again landed.

It is so pleasing when a member wins his first club match and to be fair he won it easily with 94lb of carp all caught on the feeder on his favourite shotgun feeder from peg 21 in corner.

It shows that doing something different on the day it can pay dividends and after many attempts trying he got his just reward!  So WELL DONE Matt “HMP” Holloway thoroughly deserved! 😊

2nd place only just edging the frame was myself on Peg 26 middle of bank with 79lb 9ozs of fish on the pole mainly on 2+2 or 2+3 (no feeder rod set up) It was very very close for the 3 x frame places and from people I could see Denny had at least 4+ extra fish so I fully expected to be beaten by him.

However Denny “The Chimp” s fish from peg 3 were definitely smaller and he claimed 3rd place but only just behind with 78lb 6ozs (76lb on his clicker -pretty accurate) Denny caught on pole 2+3 with pellet

“Semi Pro” Daz Mills made up 4th place from end peg 1 with 73lb 8ozs of carp with a few on the tip plus some fish from both edges. Lost fish proved costly as he would have definitely pushed Matt’s weight but they ain’t in until they hit the onion sack….

The 1st section was won by John “Hamper” Hodson from peg 7 with 51lb 5ozs who finished very strong last two hours after a slow start. Most of his fish were on the pole fished short but I couldn’t see his hookbait LOL

The 2nd section was won by Judith Chalmers oops I mean Alan “Saddle Sore” Sadler from peg 30 with 58lb 4ozs and he caught some edge dwellers in close from both margins with corn the best bait.

Banter and Funny Occurrences

Due to the gusting wind throughout the day it was a relatively peaceful day until there was a MAHOOOOSIVE wind splitting CRAAAASH……..

I looked around and what did I see you may ask?

Gary Hampshire was rolling around on the floor……. The back legs had folded at rear of his seat and with tears streaming I had to retrieve my rig and get a piccie of the ensuing palava as he struggled to right himself 😊

As always I’m here for him for a photo opportunity! and when I returned to my peg only to glance back and see him still doing the “dying fly” or “hand signals” with his feet to the lower peg numbers 😊

Secondly our resident “Unfortunate One” fresh from his early dip weeks earlier this match decided no way was he going in the drink this week…….

However no one had told his Long Peak cap! That ain’t no duck 😉

My Match Good or Bad Result

I was quite happy this week not just with 2nd but how I fished generally the wind was awkward and the wise fish wanted it presented correctly. I did lose a few fish but I think that happens at times.

I caught on 6mm pellet on 2+3 and when wind dropped I found they wanted pellet dead depth but when wind picked up I was as much as 4-5 inch overdepth and had to drag shot across the deck as well to slow it down plus by playing around with the shot I could either pick up the undertow or less so. A bulk shot will push it through more, and by opening the shot up more it catches it less.

The difference it made by tweaking it got you bites again as it must look more natural as the wind changed etc?

I gained a full house with a quid off Overpractice Mick Drew, Saddle Sore Sadler and scraped by The Chimp!

ANSWER TO “SPOT THE DIFFERENCE”….ANSWER… No Difference

(Poor old Gaz “The Spod”)

About 7 days 😉 – SEA, or Coarse, Trout or Game, – Bindi gonna get ya!!!!

Maybe it should be called “Spod the Difference” 🙂

Cob House – Laughern Island – 20-08-17

This was a different venue that we don’t normally fish and there have been big weights coming from it from the “Open lads” and the potential for some quality fish. 20 anglers fished on the day.

A large café on site provided a good brekky first thing and then when the draw was to be made just prior to this Taff Tony presented Robin “Worms” Ivison with his new Halkon Hunt Rainstopper gear for the venue.

Overall it fished well but with good sized fish it doesn’t take many to build a good weight and over the day almost 1000lbs of fish were caught but many more were lost which I will come onto later. 😉

With big fish comes “wise old fish” and within a short period many anglers were watching munters waving at you but getting them to take a bait with a hook in it proved to sort the men from the boys….

“edge dwellers” more akin to hooooorses!

Roy is having a purple patch to say the least and when margins are to be plundered he seems to have it squarely sussed! and he was the only angler to break the tonne and from peg 11 he slammed 124lbs-5ozs onto the scales for his 3rd match win of the season.

Can anyone stop this juggernaut from taking the individual crown ?

I think we all need to pull our fingers out but – Well done on the win Roy

2nd place was Denny on end peg 37 and in fairness I feared he would make the most at the start when I found out where he had drew with a few spare pegs to his left. With the pressure around the lake and water levels down room helps and he could draw fish and he made no mistake for 90lb – 5ozs for comfortable runner up.

I am delighted that one of our newest members Mark “Irn Bru” Butterworth snatched 3rd place from peg 33 weighing 80lb – 7ozs made up of 8 x munters which was a few on the tip and rest on pole.

I can see that he is going to be a consistent threat on the matches.

In 4th place was non other than Neil “Lurpak” Butterworth his chip with 78lb 2ozs for another good performance and he was winding me up telling me he had only got 50lb knowing full well he was framing and sliding me down the places LOL

The 1st section was won by default by “Hamper” John from peg 8 with 59lb-05ozs and the serial over practicer caught on the tip but couldn’t quite make the frame

The 2nd section I managed to win from peg 36 with 71lb-08ozs on the pole, from a raft of other 50lb plus back up weights.

Now as people will know I am the soul of discretion and “Semi Pro” Daz Mills mentioned quite embarrassed that he had lost 14 Carp, so being as though I was told in confidence in a whisper I will not mention it……..

Especially as they averaged probably 8-10lb each almost 112lbs – 140lbs

Daz’s car was last seen gliding out the car park and I feel sure I could hear “The Smiths” playing on his car stereo to lighten the mood 😉

My Match Good or Bad Result

In summary I got a section win and finished 6th overall but I was one of the anglers wasting too much time (2 hours+) early doors trying to catch munters that simply waved at me in edge when not feeding properly and I could have used a secondary plan 2nd place was within reach deffo.

The aerator was causing loads of tow when I started fishing a longer line on the pole and despite catching 3 x carp and 2 x decent bream and a tench I feel a better choice at start was maybe a feeder approach.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if you don’t learn you don’t improve….

I could have then fished margins latter half of the match when they had got more confident and got their heads down more etc

I gained a quid off Overpractice Mick Drew, but lost a quid to The Chimp!
