Larford Lakes – Grass Bank – 14-05-17

The 3rd match was in surprisingly good weather with clear skies and sun, so hopes were high for a good match and with the potential for big fish.

3 x Keepnets were advised – ROFLMAO

Match Section

Hamper John sorted the pegs out at the start deputising for Saddle Sore Sadler that was on his 13th holiday of the year and about now was probably sorting his dinner………  followed by cleanliness next to godliness

Alan was apparently checking at floating on Asian Stock markets in Phuket LOL

Anyway I digress Hamper John chose Pegs 4 to 28 with the wind blowing down the lake towards the lower numbers, with the owner of Larford saying end peg 28 was his idea of the out and out flyer. No pressure there then Eddie “Stobart” hehehehe

As Larford is such a long lake for once I could only see 3 anglers out the 18 that fished, so banter was limited and how everybody was faring was anyone’s guess?

In 1st place was “End Peg” Roy Ravenhill on peg 5 (not quite end peg) who after chucking the bomb and struggling, went long on method and had 4 x carp plus a few late on for 35lb 5ozs and the match win – WELL DONE ROY TOP BOMBING!

2nd place was up the other end and Eddie “Stobart”  on end peg 28 started to fancy his draw after speaking to some angler at the net dips that had fished his peg and came 3rd. He was late at start chucking his bomb out but snared 2 x early fish to settle the nerves and had 5 on the straight lead and a solitary margin fish 15-20 mins from end for 30lb 5ozs.

3rd place was “Taff” Tony Bearcroft on peg 10 who had some action with carp on feeder and banded pellet for 28lb 2ozs and an overdue but very welcome white envelope 😊

The final frame place 4th went to Gavin “Shotgun Feeder” Young off end Peg 4 who had 22lb 4ozs but lost some fish and these proved very costly as a higher position would have been  guaranteed had they hit the onion sack.

The 1st section was Matt Holloway on peg 8 with 16lb 4ozs no idea how he caught?

The 2nd section and just edging out Gary Hampshire 18lb, was Daz “Semi Pro” Mills with 20lb 6ozs of fish from peg 16.

However Gary Hampshire took largest fish of the day at 12lbs which was a great fish! 😊

Congratulations to all the Framers + White Envelope winners

In summary it didn’t fish great by any stretch of imagination but maybe it’s that time of year where carp start having other things on their minds, but other than that no idea why so little was caught but that’s fishing.

Banter & Funny Occurrences

As I stated earlier I couldn’t see a lot down the bank however I could see “Rumbold” Edwards!!! Well not so much “Rumbold” LOL I could see his rod and reel being towed beautifully around the lake……….. hehehehe

Step forward “Storming” Norman any chance you can retrieve this…………..

It was eventually brought back to terra firma and would have bumped his weight up a lot.

My Match Good or Bad Result

I was on peg 26 which I fancied for some fish towards island, but thought that wind or some room would also play a key part.

I had bomb and method rods set up for island, a long pole line for pellet if needed plus a 2+5 line for meat to try last few hours and then hopefully a margin line in 2feet for last hour.

For 2 hours I persevered on tip and never had a liner or any carp bites so I went long on pole id been feeding and I could get bites off small skimmers but not carp and not being able to see anyone you feel sure you needed more so I felt with 2 hours gone I had to go for carp.

I rotated on tip, 2+5, and margins last 2 hours and none worked a few skimmers for 3lb odd and plum LAST in match   Battered yet again 😉

I’m going through one of them spells that if I fell in a barrel of tits I’d come out sucking me thumb. If I’d targeted small fish it would have been a big weight needed, set out for lumps and big weights and just putting fish in the onion sack is nature of the beast!

Anglers are queuing up now to nick a quid off me as there’s now “Saddle Sore” Sadler, Denny “the Chimp”, and Mick “No Barra”

Heeeeelp
