Woodland View – High Pool – 10-06-17

The 4th match was on the popular Woodlands View High Pool that is the deepest one of the many lakes on offer at the complex.

Our Chairman was overdue another 2 week vacation with hospitality in “Trumps” home land after a very, very, tumultuous time after a full 7 days back working at his empire. The mental anguish and stresses he experiences has to be appreciated during his 3 days weeks… 😉

Hamper John again deputised and sorted the draw and the weather managed to stay dry right until the end of the match when it started drizzling which was typical and par for the course.

Match Section

In 1st place and one person who obviously got it sussed and stormed away on the day was Roy “Endpeg” Ravenhill who smaaaaaaaashed everyone to bits from peg 24 with a margin based attack to record yet another win with 115lb 5ozs! Roy caught mainly on maggot down the edge and had some right proper fellas in his keepnets.

One Munter carp that Roy played for quite a while it went by Denny on the next peg who didn’t know whether to just watch in awe, or simply jump on his back and ride it down the lake.  A guesstimate was approx 17-18lbish but alas we will never know as the hook pulled right at the death – so he actually went easy on us all!

I asked Roy where he caught hehehehe?

Well Done Roy a superb weight with the number of anglers on the lake.

In 2nd place was Mark “Catmeat” Causer on same bank from peg 33 who I think caught out the margins as well? to record a very creditable 55lb 8ozs of Carp! Well done again a good weight

In 3rd place and well overdue was Hamper “Albutt” John from peg 7 who slung just over 50lbs on the scales fishing a top 2 in front. For those of you who don’t know Hamper had a present of a fishing lesson from the superstar Grant Albutt but since this had struggled to much mirth and banter each week from his fellow anglers lol

Saturday he made no mistakes and went home with a downpayment on his new skillset! 😉

In 4th place was the consistent Eddie “Stobart” Mayer who drew bang in middle of the lake on peg 12 for a 49lb 10 from his favoured worm, worm, and more worm out margins.

This weight although just shy of 50lb just edged out a few of the anglers near top of league.

In 5th place only a shade behind was Denny “The Chimp” Dennahay on peg 25 who drew next to Endpeg Roy and come the end of the match had a great smile on his fizz benefitting from the default frame with 47lb 7ozs.

Banter & Funny Occurrences

Being at the end of the lake on peg 18 I couldn’t chat with many or see right up the lake, however dead opposite me was the one and only Mick “No Barrow” Drew who like myself was struggling to get bites.

However unbeknown to me with hour and half to go he had hooked a carp and then playing the fish it took a liking to the aerator to his right. At this point I looked up to see him astride it with his pole in air and arms around the aerator either mating with it or repairing it? WTF

When I gently tackled him on it he assures me he had it all under control and he was making sure it was safe……….. getting his flip flops back maybe?

Come the end of the match one person had done his usual early runner in the electric car for an urgent appointment later that day

I cannot name names but his nickname is Rumbold and apparently he tells me he runs a tight ship at home.

My Match Good or Bad Result

I drew peg 18 wasn’t happy (exactly same peg as last time) as having done a bit of research prior to match and canvassed numerous anglers/tackle shops “between the two compressor aerators” was supposedly best area.

Having fished the corner peg before here and really struggled I thought I would try it differently so I fished margin further into space/corner to left at 14.5mtrs instead of just 9mtrs but still only had 1 x proper bite on corn or pellet.

I caught some F1s and small carp early doors on 2+1 (snaggy) lost about 6 hooks and 2 rigs on branches. So I had to go further out on 2+3 for just 26lb odd on pellet or expander for 13th (also tried and fed casters)

Only saving grace is Mick Drew on next peg to my left weighed 23lb so his silly quid went straight to Denny who came 5th.

However Taff Tony beat me to my right on peg 16 for 11th in match with 30lb on soft expander at about 10mtrs.
