Match Report
This is a Lake at venue that we should have fished before, however last time after feedback it all went a bit Pete Tong and we never. The lake had been in good form recently but with gusting wind plus another good turnout (19 anglers) meant pegging was tight, and results were slightly lower than anticipated
It was nice to see the Chairman appear at the start and introduce himself to members. He is the middle one of the 3 in photo without the dishonourable “Bindi” from blanking at sea fishing in Lanzarote
PS “Spot the difference” in this photo to the last photo on match report?
Match Section
Overall it fished decent in conditions with almost 700lbs of fish caught averaging 38lb plus per angler and a pretty close match with some decent fish again landed.
It is so pleasing when a member wins his first club match and to be fair he won it easily with 94lb of carp all caught on the feeder on his favourite shotgun feeder from peg 21 in corner.
It shows that doing something different on the day it can pay dividends and after many attempts trying he got his just reward! So WELL DONE Matt “HMP” Holloway thoroughly deserved! 😊
2nd place only just edging the frame was myself on Peg 26 middle of bank with 79lb 9ozs of fish on the pole mainly on 2+2 or 2+3 (no feeder rod set up) It was very very close for the 3 x frame places and from people I could see Denny had at least 4+ extra fish so I fully expected to be beaten by him.
However Denny “The Chimp” s fish from peg 3 were definitely smaller and he claimed 3rd place but only just behind with 78lb 6ozs (76lb on his clicker -pretty accurate) Denny caught on pole 2+3 with pellet
“Semi Pro” Daz Mills made up 4th place from end peg 1 with 73lb 8ozs of carp with a few on the tip plus some fish from both edges. Lost fish proved costly as he would have definitely pushed Matt’s weight but they ain’t in until they hit the onion sack….
The 1st section was won by John “Hamper” Hodson from peg 7 with 51lb 5ozs who finished very strong last two hours after a slow start. Most of his fish were on the pole fished short but I couldn’t see his hookbait LOL
The 2nd section was won by Judith Chalmers oops I mean Alan “Saddle Sore” Sadler from peg 30 with 58lb 4ozs and he caught some edge dwellers in close from both margins with corn the best bait.
Banter and Funny Occurrences
Due to the gusting wind throughout the day it was a relatively peaceful day until there was a MAHOOOOSIVE wind splitting CRAAAASH……..
I looked around and what did I see you may ask?
Gary Hampshire was rolling around on the floor……. The back legs had folded at rear of his seat and with tears streaming I had to retrieve my rig and get a piccie of the ensuing palava as he struggled to right himself 😊
As always I’m here for him for a photo opportunity! and when I returned to my peg only to glance back and see him still doing the “dying fly” or “hand signals” with his feet to the lower peg numbers 😊
Secondly our resident “Unfortunate One” fresh from his early dip weeks earlier this match decided no way was he going in the drink this week…….
However no one had told his Long Peak cap! That ain’t no duck 😉
My Match Good or Bad Result
I was quite happy this week not just with 2nd but how I fished generally the wind was awkward and the wise fish wanted it presented correctly. I did lose a few fish but I think that happens at times.
I caught on 6mm pellet on 2+3 and when wind dropped I found they wanted pellet dead depth but when wind picked up I was as much as 4-5 inch overdepth and had to drag shot across the deck as well to slow it down plus by playing around with the shot I could either pick up the undertow or less so. A bulk shot will push it through more, and by opening the shot up more it catches it less.
The difference it made by tweaking it got you bites again as it must look more natural as the wind changed etc?
I gained a full house with a quid off Overpractice Mick Drew, Saddle Sore Sadler and scraped by The Chimp!
