I think everyone was looking forward to this match as Little Geary’s had started fishing really well the week before with multiple 100Lb weights, however the festival a few days prior had brought the weights back down to less than half the previous weeks and this was a sign it was going to be a much harder match.
Our esteemed Chairman was again sacrificing a days enjoyment fishing for the long hard slog behind ensuring the Charity bike ride everyone stays safe and the last riders brake lights are working…..
Match Section
19 anglers graced the day and a very close match it proved to be with a winning weight of 46lb but with 10 anglers from 27lb upwards.
We knew this day was coming the Celebrity lesson and 2 hours of intense casting with no hooks on and finally Hamper John realised his mistake and in a match you do actually need to attach a hooklength on!
Arise Hamper “Albutt” John Hodson with a feeder caught 46lb 03 from
peg 3 to win the match edging out 2nd place by 2lb.
In 2nd place was Mr man in form and the man that can catch fish out the margins of your bathtub
“Endpeg” Roy Ravenhill peg 23 came within a whisker of making it 3 x Adroit AC match wins on a trot with 44lb dead.
This is making him very hard to beat this year on the individual league with such consistency on nearly every match.
3rd place was Denny “The Chimp” on peg 13 who as most people will realise if F1s are the name of the game he ain’t going to be far away and so it proved again with 36lb 9ozs on the scales come the end
In 4th place was Ben “The Student” Taylor that fished a method to island and caught 32lb 3ozs of F1’s and a few carp to just snag the last frame.
Rob was left to weigh his lad in as an early exit down to the smoke was required by Ben for the usual 12 x pints of snakebite and his however I seem to recall him saying to his dad “treat yourself to a fly line” for the underhand trick of him not packing his sidetray LOL
The 1st section was won from peg 5 with 31lb 5ozs by Semi Pro Daz again with an envelope who caught long on caster shallow and he lost loads of fish apparently on a snag so he could have troubled the leaders.
The 2nd section was won by Mick “No Barrow” Drew AKA – the Vagrant from peg 28 with 31lb 1ozs who upon arrival at the fishery was sporting a bit of unkempt face fuzz stating he wants to look designer and suave like them off the telly…
I responded he did a bit “ just like Catweazle” hehehehe
Banter & Funny Occurrences
It was beyond quiet due to the nature of the shape of the lake and the mature layout in as much as you couldn’t see hardly anyone so it was a very peaceful day but not one that lended itself to much banter. ☹
Come the weigh in there was a few cries into song to certain anglers “he’s only got one net” and that was about it…
Denny who was on next peg to me we have our normal quid side bet on the day and he duly spanked me by 7lb so I graciously passed it to him only 2 feet away from him…
My Match Good or Bad Result
Drew Ok on peg 15 but as the weights had been so good in the run up to the match I felt sure you would need 60-70lb+ to win or 50lb plus to frame – how wrong I was. ;-(
Not being able to see anyone I could only see Roy opposite (2nd) and Stobart so your mind starts playing tricks on what is possibly being caught around the lake?
I started on the 2+3 on slop + few pellets and I caught 3-4 but lost 3 x F1s and then it went dead. I had fed and tried meat in margins after 3 hours and only had 2 x perch so I went long on pole shallow and got 1 x F1 and lost 1 but felt I was going nowhere really it was to few and far between bites.
I picked up the feeder rod and had 1 x F1 straight away and lost one but after 30 minutes I felt I wasn’t getting bites quick enough to catch up the barren spell.
Left way too many fish in peg as I believe I should/could have done 40-50lb minimum off it if I had stayed 2+3 or 2+4 and not flitted around peg trying to force methods.
I also never gave the tip long enough to build it either and if I’d started on that I felt a good day was possible however we ALL make calls on the day I just made wrong uns!
TBF Frying most of time…….;-)
The 4th match was on the popular Woodlands View High Pool that is the deepest one of the many lakes on offer at the complex.
Our Chairman was overdue another 2 week vacation with hospitality in “Trumps” home land after a very, very, tumultuous time after a full 7 days back working at his empire. The mental anguish and stresses he experiences has to be appreciated during his 3 days weeks… 😉
Hamper John again deputised and sorted the draw and the weather managed to stay dry right until the end of the match when it started drizzling which was typical and par for the course.
Match Section
In 1st place and one person who obviously got it sussed and stormed away on the day was Roy “Endpeg” Ravenhill who smaaaaaaaashed everyone to bits from peg 24 with a margin based attack to record yet another win with 115lb 5ozs! Roy caught mainly on maggot down the edge and had some right proper fellas in his keepnets.
One Munter carp that Roy played for quite a while it went by Denny on the next peg who didn’t know whether to just watch in awe, or simply jump on his back and ride it down the lake. A guesstimate was approx 17-18lbish but alas we will never know as the hook pulled right at the death – so he actually went easy on us all!
I asked Roy where he caught hehehehe?
Well Done Roy a superb weight with the number of anglers on the lake.
In 2nd place was Mark “Catmeat” Causer on same bank from peg 33 who I think caught out the margins as well? to record a very creditable 55lb 8ozs of Carp! Well done again a good weight
In 3rd place and well overdue was Hamper “Albutt” John from peg 7 who slung just over 50lbs on the scales fishing a top 2 in front. For those of you who don’t know Hamper had a present of a fishing lesson from the superstar Grant Albutt but since this had struggled to much mirth and banter each week from his fellow anglers lol
Saturday he made no mistakes and went home with a downpayment on his new skillset! 😉
In 4th place was the consistent Eddie “Stobart” Mayer who drew bang in middle of the lake on peg 12 for a 49lb 10 from his favoured worm, worm, and more worm out margins.
This weight although just shy of 50lb just edged out a few of the anglers near top of league.
In 5th place only a shade behind was Denny “The Chimp” Dennahay on peg 25 who drew next to Endpeg Roy and come the end of the match had a great smile on his fizz benefitting from the default frame with 47lb 7ozs.
Banter & Funny Occurrences
Being at the end of the lake on peg 18 I couldn’t chat with many or see right up the lake, however dead opposite me was the one and only Mick “No Barrow” Drew who like myself was struggling to get bites.
However unbeknown to me with hour and half to go he had hooked a carp and then playing the fish it took a liking to the aerator to his right. At this point I looked up to see him astride it with his pole in air and arms around the aerator either mating with it or repairing it? WTF
When I gently tackled him on it he assures me he had it all under control and he was making sure it was safe……….. getting his flip flops back maybe?
Come the end of the match one person had done his usual early runner in the electric car for an urgent appointment later that day
I cannot name names but his nickname is Rumbold and apparently he tells me he runs a tight ship at home.
My Match Good or Bad Result
I drew peg 18 wasn’t happy (exactly same peg as last time) as having done a bit of research prior to match and canvassed numerous anglers/tackle shops “between the two compressor aerators” was supposedly best area.
Having fished the corner peg before here and really struggled I thought I would try it differently so I fished margin further into space/corner to left at 14.5mtrs instead of just 9mtrs but still only had 1 x proper bite on corn or pellet.
I caught some F1s and small carp early doors on 2+1 (snaggy) lost about 6 hooks and 2 rigs on branches. So I had to go further out on 2+3 for just 26lb odd on pellet or expander for 13th (also tried and fed casters)
Only saving grace is Mick Drew on next peg to my left weighed 23lb so his silly quid went straight to Denny who came 5th.
However Taff Tony beat me to my right on peg 16 for 11th in match with 30lb on soft expander at about 10mtrs.
TBF
The
3rd match was in surprisingly good weather with clear skies and sun, so hopes were high for a good match and with the potential for big fish.
3 x Keepnets were advised – ROFLMAO
Match Section
Hamper John sorted the pegs out at the start deputising for Saddle Sore Sadler that was on his 13th holiday of the year and about now was probably sorting his dinner……… followed by cleanliness next to godliness
Alan was apparently checking at floating on Asian Stock markets in Phuket LOL
Anyway I digress Hamper John chose Pegs 4 to 28 with the wind blowing down the lake towards the lower numbers, with the owner of Larford saying end peg 28 was his idea of the out and out flyer. No pressure there then Eddie “Stobart” hehehehe
As Larford is such a long lake for once I could only see 3 anglers out the 18 that fished, so banter was limited and how everybody was faring was anyone’s guess?
In 1st place was “End Peg” Roy Ravenhill on peg 5 (not quite end peg) who after chucking the bomb and struggling, went long on method and had 4 x carp plus a few late on for 35lb 5ozs and the match win – WELL DONE ROY TOP BOMBING!
2nd place was up the other end and Eddie “Stobart” on end peg 28 started to fancy his draw after speaking to some angler at the net dips that had fished his peg and came 3rd. He was late at start chucking his bomb out but snared 2 x early fish to settle the nerves and had 5 on the straight lead and a solitary margin fish 15-20 mins from end for 30lb 5ozs.
3rd place was “Taff” Tony Bearcroft on peg 10 who had some action with carp on feeder and banded pellet for 28lb 2ozs and an overdue but very welcome white envelope 😊
The final frame place 4th went to Gavin “Shotgun Feeder” Young off end Peg 4 who had 22lb 4ozs but lost some fish and these proved very costly as a higher position would have been guaranteed had they hit the onion sack.
The 1st section was Matt Holloway on peg 8 with 16lb 4ozs no idea how he caught?
The 2nd section and just edging out Gary Hampshire 18lb, was Daz “Semi Pro” Mills with 20lb 6ozs of fish from peg 16.
However Gary Hampshire took largest fish of the day at 12lbs which was a great fish! 😊
Congratulations to all the Framers + White Envelope winners
In summary it didn’t fish great by any stretch of imagination but maybe it’s that time of year where carp start having other things on their minds, but other than that no idea why so little was caught but that’s fishing.
Banter & Funny Occurrences
As I stated earlier I couldn’t see a lot down the bank however I could see “Rumbold” Edwards!!! Well not so much “Rumbold” LOL I could see his rod and reel being towed beautifully around the lake……….. hehehehe
Step forward “Storming” Norman any chance you can retrieve this…………..
It was eventually brought back to terra firma and would have bumped his weight up a lot.
My Match Good or Bad Result
I was on peg 26 which I fancied for some fish towards island, but thought that wind or some room would also play a key part.
I had bomb and method rods set up for island, a long pole line for pellet if needed plus a 2+5 line for meat to try last few hours and then hopefully a margin line in 2feet for last hour.
For 2 hours I persevered on tip and never had a liner or any carp bites so I went long on pole id been feeding and I could get bites off small skimmers but not carp and not being able to see anyone you feel sure you needed more so I felt with 2 hours gone I had to go for carp.
I rotated on tip, 2+5, and margins last 2 hours and none worked a few skimmers for 3lb odd and plum LAST in match Battered yet again 😉
I’m going through one of them spells that if I fell in a barrel of tits I’d come out sucking me thumb. If I’d targeted small fish it would have been a big weight needed, set out for lumps and big weights and just putting fish in the onion sack is nature of the beast!
Anglers are queuing up now to nick a quid off me as there’s now “Saddle Sore” Sadler, Denny “the Chimp”, and Mick “No Barra”
Heeeeelp
TBF
T
he 2nd match started off with yet another bonus as our esteemed Treasurer Robin “Worms” Ivison has an imminent 65th Birthday so he treated all Adroit AC members to a cracking brekkie….
We all wish you good luck on your “bike rides” and more days out fishing LOL and we hope you enjoy your retirement 😉
Match Section
A full house and 24 members in the match plus “Storming Norman” as per usual running the trout ragged was order of the day (he finished with 5 to 2 1/2lbs)
With such a good turnout any room was always going to be a bonus and “Semi Pro Daz” produced a sterling performance from Peg 17 in corner to Waltz the match with a good few carp on the tip before plundering the left margin the last 4 hours for 95lb 7ozs.
Not only was this a match win but it’s the highest match weight we had on there in our Adroit AC matches so well done – Top bombing!
IN 2nd place was “Lurpak” Neil Butterworth who drew peg 16 opposite Semi Pro Daz and would have ran him a lot closer but for losing 12 carp. Neil returned a good weight on the day of 53lb 5ozs with some on the tip chucked to the dead reeds to right and then some carp to right down margins.
3rd place was “End Peg” Roy Ravenhill who must be wondering how on earth he earned his moniker? as he draws end pegs recently about as much as Trump attends How to Win Friends and Influence People rallies….
Roy finished strong with a good run down the margins on pole to plunder 46lb 4ozs of carp and despite not fishing as much as he used to can still do the business.
The 4th and last frame was myself with 44lb 4ozs which surprised me! as I’d watched peg 1s Ben “The Students” Taylors pole going in and out all day after an hour and I really thought id been well and truly smashed by him.
I caught mainly on the tip to the island last 2 1/2 hours and was happy enough from my drawn area.
The 1st section was won by Ben Taylor on peg 1 who caught a raft of fish going like the proverbial “bees wings” for 35lb 5ozs but they were a lot lot smaller stockie carp (possibly newer fish)
The 2nd section was won by Mick “Rumbold” Edwards on peg 19 yet again being consistent and in the money with 32lb 2ozs. (no idea how he caught his fish)
Overall it was a well run match promptly weighed by the 3 x highest drawn anglers in and in all fairness although a bit patchy it fished ok on the day for the time of season.
Banter & Funny Occurrences
It was a quiet match with a bit of shouting about the pairs at the start, but 2-3 hours in and I established our newest member Eddie “Stobart” has a forte with wildlife!!
A couple of errant casts and next minute world war 3 has broken out on the lake and a geese has took umbrage to his waggler and suffice to say the winner was not Stobarts kit…
He was last seen in Fosters buying a few more geese feed “wags” with various tops 😊
Next where do I start I didn’t mind drawing the far side but being opposite Gaz the Spod we all know requires life insurance top ups….
This time I thought I’m safe he’s nowhere near me but 3.5 hours in and everyone knows what the Welsh are like after we trounced em in the Rugby they don’t arf hold grudges hehehehe.
In what seems like slo mo “Taff” Tony Bearcroft has launched what appeared to be an
“Exocet” feeder which cleared the height of the tree on island in front of me and the weight of it pulled the branch down and it gently kissed the feeder line – I nearly wet me sen! Cue the Welsh shout “oops tidy mind”
They say red squirrels are rare! Grey will be en all
Not to be outdone and no way was a trip to fosters on Tonys radar……….

Back to Fisherwick for him Sunday to retrieve what’s rightly his 😊
Now where is it? Higher Higher Higher!
Spare a thought for good old Mick “No Barrow” he was shaking his head at end of the match but alas he still had his mind on other things….
he had lost his “Expert Gurus” Advice
Most people need to spend a penny during a match, but just lately Mick was seen nibbling on this young filly’s ear – who says the camera never lies? LOL!
My Match Good or Bad Result
For once I was pretty happy overall on what was gained weight wise from my peg, I fished maggot at start and 6mm pellet at the end and I did lose 2-3 fish one of which was deffo foul hooked!
I couldn’t make the pole work and others were struggling on this and if Denny cant make pole work and get bites there ain’t masses of fish around.
The Pellet waggler was drawing off a true line so I made a decision to fish pellet method feeder to furthest part away from me. Last few hours more fish came
So Roy was within range, but he may also have lost fish as well?
The grudge matches has an extra member now as well as Denny “The Chimp” and “Saddle Sore” Sadler, Mick “No Barrow” wants to relieve me of a few pound…….Yes
I know I may be 2-3Lbs over my ideal weight, or 3-4 feet under my ideal height depending on which way you look at it 😊
The Big Fella
PS NOBODY MUST MENTION DENNY “THE CHIMP” WAS CHIP SHOPPED SATURDAY EITHER!! Frying times are 10.30am-3.30pm 😊
I cannot start the report without a mention of “special thanks” to Hamper John who turns 65 on Wednesday 15th March who sponsored EVERYONES paid for Breakfast on arrival at the fishery.
John had 3 x tickets left over and as it was a shame to waste, he had em all on his sidetray for the match instead of his bait- but alas nowt left come the end!
First match of season and Tunnel Barn Extension was the venue and after the recent milder spell, hopes were high a few fish would have a chew…
Draw was at 8.30am and fishing was from 10.30 to 3.30pm so plenty of time for a relaxed nice set up for all
At start a new member was welcomed to the club in “Eddie Maher” who as people have
been accustomed to needs a club nickname so here’s the obvious
Enjoy the club “Stobart” it’s a good craic 😉
Match Section
Overall it fished pretty well I would say for an early March Match with over 460lb of fish caught and nearly everyone getting quite a few bites.
Most fish were caught on pole but looking around the lake it was good to see everyone doing it slightly different with some fishing long to far bank or islands, some down the track, some in margins, and some like Gavin under his feet catching the wise older fish.
On a similar vein “Worms” Ivison had located some wiser ones as well…

For the avoidance of doubt I explained these are called “squirrels” and cannot be weighed in!
1st place was a bit of a miracle escape and I finished very well on Peg 19 to end up with 49lb 5ozs, just edging out “Rumbold” Mick Edwards into 2nd place that has started this year like last year with an early frame.
Mick was on Peg 33 at top end of lake and caught 48lb – 7ozs on mainly 2+2 feeding micros fishing pellet and had plenty of bites throughout the day.
Mick’s face said it all when he knew he’d smashed Denny…..take that ooooooooosh!
3rd place was opposite me to my right and was a real surprise as from everyone I could see down the length I thought he had absolutely hosed the match!
Last years “Club Champion” Denny “The Chimp” starts strong in 2017 and you can see my counselling is going great and I can just about write this after 3 months..
Denny was on peg 7 and weighed 41lb 14ozs by starting off fishing long but away from island catching steadily on Xpander pellet feeding micros, and then when the F1s backed off he chased them over to the island down the shelf in approx 3 feet of water. F1s are a speciality to Denny and he is always going to be there or thereabouts as in fairness he has got them pretty sussed.
In 4th place was Darren “Semi Pro” Mills on Peg 25 with 38lb 12ozs who did a bit of all sorts including 2+2 ish feeding caster for a mixed bag silvers and F1s.
The 1st section was won by Gavin on Peg 13 with 36lb 10.5ozs catching very very short but its noticeable he is getting into the habit of being in the money
The 2nd section was actually won by DEFAULT by Mick “No Barrow” Drew on Peg 28 with 26lb 8.5ozs catching mainly on 2+3! However “Catmeat” Causer did finish top in section by quite a way with 34lb 7ozs – but didn’t go in the pools.

Mick Drew’s new Box Sticker
My Match Good or Bad Result
I started off down shelf to right of island aMicks new sponsored box sticker!tt 13mtrs and it was very slow I lost an f1 after 20 minutes and persevered too long. So I went closer to island and I could get pretty regular bites on 4mm pellet feeding micros but these fish were miniscule (4-6ounce fish) compared to what I could be seen being landed by Denny/Darren/Mark Causer/”Turps” Tarrington etc.
It throws me with everyone’s different sized landing nets LOL as you look at the size of fish in relation to landing net.
I had 3 better f1s across but I could see I was lagging way behind so I started feeding a margin line for later and luckily this came good with better F1s.
I genuinely was well out on my estimation I thought I’d had 15-18lb going to last 90mins due to smaller fish + 3 x decent f1s, however my strong finish last hour I was hoping for 35lbs ish so stated 30lbs. (small fish are hard to gauge)
In reality the margin fish averaged bigger but no way did I think I had 49lb+ so I must have put close to 28lb+ last hour and 20mins.
In summary I got “lucky” and picked a pocket but sometimes it goes for you and sometimes the calls go wrong!
The grudge £quid off “Saddle Sore” Sadler + “The Chimp” was most welcome! J

Fisherwick Lake Match Pool Saturday 8th April

The Big Fella
Well it’s the last match of the calendar year and what a grueller it was for most anglers on the lake.
Upon arrival we found out there were only two lakes with ice on, but the bad news is we were on House pool and this was one of them and we never had ice breakers
Thanks go to Les at Tunnel Barn Farm for lending us ice breakers and the manual labour within the club Mick the Fish, and others plus including one guest that helped Irn Bru Lurpaks Bro!
Rumour has it Irn Bru was after another shift!

Meanwhile peg 24 there was sunbeds out and “with box on his back” Bri “The Teeth” Dennehay was strolling to his ICE FREE peg and cracking out the Ambre Solaire
However another angler after drawing his peg, who shall remain nameless “Rumbold” cough cough!
Decided we had all taken leave of our senses and shot off home for an early bath however his wife managed to catch him scrubbing up and trying out his new deodorant. Divine Intervention or some would say one of the 3 wise men maybe?
Everybody was trying to get a fish in the net a settler as it were! and none more so than Gaz “The Spod” who decided to do his prep slightly different…..he managed to get set up and ready for about 10.20am and then realised that his peg was icy and unfishable so started chucking his net in and scraping ice with Mick No Barra asking him if he had any other tricks 😉
Not t be outdone he thought about it and went on the tip, and chucked his bomb onto the ice barnes wallis would have been proud 4 skips and bounces and it nearly had Dennys eye out……I was crying that much the icicles were busting on me platform. Here he is
Tunnel Barn Cod Fishing!
Anyway onto the match and Denny “The Chimps” practice of going fishing in all weathers and fishing for F1s in particular it has become a bit of a forte for him.
You get out of life what you put in and drawn over the bridge on peg 30 he fished pole and pellet to finish with just over 20lb, and was way out on front of 2nd place to win not only the match but also the Individual aggregate Trophy again. J Well Done Denny!
Madness! Hehehehe- FUN?? J
In 2nd place on peg 32 with 6lb 3ozs was the very consistent “Semi Pro” Daz who was watching the winner sail off into the sunset but had enough for the frame by also fishing pole but I couldn’t see what on the hook – possibly maggot?
In 3rd place with 5lb 4ozs on peg 10 and smashing me up off next peg on maggot with a munter Perch and 2 x F1s was the new kid on the block fishing as a guest on the day “Mark “Irn Bru” who fished very tidy!
I was watching him and I think F1s could well be his favoured species as he makes Denny look like Bill Gates with his feeding. “Irn Bru” was feeding his tosspot and dropped a 2mm micro on the floor and he was scrabbling around trying to find it. I asked after the match how much feed he used and over 5 hours he’s fed 5 to 6 maggots top —- WHAAAAAT?? so at that rate his ¼ pint of maggots will last to about 2024.
In 4th place on peg 20 was another good framing performance from “Worms” Ivison who had 4lb 5ozs just edging out Gavin Young off peg 22 into the 2nd section win place.
The 1st section of 10 was won off peg 1 by Mick “The Fish” who had 3 x f1s for 3lb -13 ½
My Match
I thought overall I fished ok and I thought I was having a blank myself at one point having gone over 2 hours without a bite and when I got a ½ ounce roach I very nearly netted it LOL
At end I had winkled out 4-5 small roach, a small F1 with an hour to go and a skimmer about 9ozs on whistle for 2lb 4ozs with all fish on single red maggot but a Pinkie or any multiples mag was biteless?
I missed one definite bite on pellet, and a corn skin I was sure I had an indication on as well but I missed it and think it was just a silver blade nibbling the end of the skin.
I fed not a lot at all but not like Irn Bru on peg 10 that must save his hair for his mattress fillings??
End of Match
So come the finale I fair skipped over 4 x top kits, my pole roller, my landing net but I was at “Saddle Sore” Sadlers peg in seconds with my marker to dish out the “Bindis” to the Kray Twins

Bri “ The Teeth” caught sunstroke but nowt else and there were another few blanks as well and those that have done the Skeg vegas trip know what a BLANKO means its Flouro Bindi Time….. hehehehe
Worn Loud and Proud in the pub!
In summary
We had a large trophy that was donated by Trevor Rowley last season and at the start we agreed that this 10th match would be called The “LESTER CUP” in memory of a real gent from within us who sadly passed away earlier in the year. Paul is going to get it all engraved up for the AGM with the other cups.
The other trophies were handed back from last years AGM
The Fur and Feather prizes were all handed out and we were one short at one point?
Only 4 prizes were in the van and with 5 anglers to draw, the inquisition was on and Irn Bru was talking his frame through and must have thought you simply brought a prize to the party left it in your car and then went home with enough whisky to buy your next 5 years bait bill hehehe J
Rumbold has a £10er Fosters voucher to be given to him from me at AGM
The AGM is likely to be in February next year rather than January, as the new Chairman is away on holiday most of January 2017.
XMAS BASH – The Curry that NEVER was!

Best Poppadom Meal Ever
Fridays night was a good bash and was well attended in Boldmere at the Weatherspoon Vesey but the curry was an experience.
Highlights included
Mick “the Fish’s” sing song + mouth organ
Adam Tallington’s New Language – A cross between Swahili with a stunted dialect I was on Bitter, I think he may have been on Turps? Hehehe only joking 😉
Mick “Boris Johnsons” Drew – Your local resident Foreign envoy for Curry houses. Kofi Annan your job is safe 🙂
The next match is March 2017 at Tunnel Barn Farm and I welcome the new Adroit AC Chairman Alan “Bindi” Sadler who is taking on the running of your club from the AGM
Good luck in your new appointment
Lastly I will continue to do these reports for the next 12 months as it stands
TBF
The draw was in process alongside the frivolities of BRI “The Teeths” Noisy supporters club putting an appearance in to hopefully cheer home the peoples champion…..
Brian “The Teeth” hehehehehehe
Placards were waved 😉
In goes Dennys hand……….
A poor draw maybe to make the Individual Trophy an even match……..?

Don’t be silly end peg 16, For “DISNEY DENNY”
it was ALWAYS gonna be hard for Bri, as DISNEY Denny sprinted off to home from home!
Anyway it was bitterly cold and rain even but put an appearance in but was not forecasted so it was making the most of the conditions on the day.
Way way out in front on the match with 55lb 7 was our resident Mick “No Barrow” who chucked a bomb all over his peg loose feeding his glasses, standing on his hook box, and poking his eye almost out with his disgorger……
His boilie looked like it originated from Hiroshima being bright Orange but boy did it do the trick after carp after carp hit the onion sack.
A thoroughly deserving winner who always has a smile on his face and takes his fair share of banter by taking it and giving it out “PULLL IT HARDEEEER” – WELL DONE!!!
In 2nd place was Disney Denny or “Denny “The Chimp” who fished a peg hes fished before but he did have to slide his float up an inch as it was up a tad.
Although soundly beaten by “No Barrow” he fished the pole and the tip catching most on the pole and was way clear of 3rd place with 38lb odd to win both the individual knock out, plus take the overall title to the wire. Well Done! 😉
In 3rd place and that tip still keeps going round is “HMP” Holloway who caught 14lb 14ozs on cubed meat tight across when no one else could get a rap tight over… Getting Consistent!
The last frame was one of our guests who had 8lb 8 on the pole I think which was 4 x carp from peg 1 which just edged Poncey Paul out the main frame into 5th
“you need how many top kits?” “Poncey” Paul was happy to Chill on the bank and his section win only just inched out a few others on 8lb odd including the other section winner “Worms” Ivison I think it was.
My Summary
I drew peg 12 and to be honest I was quite happy with my draw! It’s an area I had drew before on an Open match on Match Lake peg 13 and I had a grueller and struggled like billyo with just 17lb, but then went back fished it differently two weeks later with Adroit and had high 60-70Lb odd to win match so I was prepared to try a few things if needed……
I was sandwiched between Alf “Norgrove” peg 11 and Gavin on peg 13 and Gavin had 3 x small carp on the tip in first hour and half and then not a touch, and Alf had just 1 x carp all day for 4lb.
So JUST how did my day go……….
I BLANKED!
I tried a small method over and never had a bite, not a flicker! Tried the pole feeding micros sparingly with expander it never looked like going under…… used another line with differing feed/bait no bites went down to 0.11 and 22 and single maggot no bites not even a blade
Margins fed one line and tried it several times never looked like moving
Thought a few fish may be mid water instead? as Gavin had stopped getting any indications at all now but as he had 3 carp earlier I felt they may have come off bottom so into me rodbag and I tried a waggler dotted down mid water but alas not a flicker….
So I fed a Desperation line it came up to standard it was exactly that “Absolutely Desperate”
Overall I worked harder for a blank than I do to catch 50-60lb of fish – mad aint it J
Conclusion with Hindsight
I am critical of myself as I always analyse after the match what I done right or where I’ve gone wrong, as it’s the only way you improve and hindsight is a wonderful vision to have.
In summary I think the fish were basically not/hardly feeding and just chucking all around the peg with a bomb or small feeder would have been far better than pole/float tactics.
The Pub
Now those of you that don’t know when we have Skeg Vegas Festival if you Blank you have a BINDI applied on forehead for the night! (Don’t we “Hamper” John) J
So at a pace slighter quicker than Usain Bolt in came Mick
“No Barrow” like a flash of light with a Flouro Orange brush in hand….. So with his track record and not wanting to lose an eye I had BINDI applied and looked to see if I had it down me coat as well etc hehehehehe
Alan was pleased with his 2 x blind carp!

The 8th match was at a surprisingly mirror calm Holmes Farm however as duly forecasted the weather deteriorated dramatically through the day. Only “Storming” Norman on peg 1 had to put the Ambre Solaire down about 2pm when the trees behind actually let a light breeze and 2-3 bits of drizzle fell onto his hands.
The day started off with a brekkie organised by Catmeat Causer which ran behind schedule as it takes a while to polish off an all you can eat breakfast. Alf Norgrove saw it as a challenge though and I thought I was witnessing man v food…….
Next we arrived at the fishery – well most of us did however two other anglers were sat 15 miles away at another draw wondering where everyone else was? Despite the Chimps talking about the Holmes Farm less than 24 hours earlier so we hastily organised a tunnel and they were promptly slow clapped into the new venue.
You sa
id where? It started with a “H” Worms!
Note: Worms is on Encyclopedia 7, Volume 5 page 1013, paragraph 9 of excuses as to why modern technology and his Sat Nav is broken and ALWAYS sends him the wrong way.
The draw was done and Hamper John drew peg 7 one away from where he came 2nd last time but word had travelled vast re “Anaconda Bag” Hodson and a toilet block had been built behind him!
It’s times like this when it gives me great pleasure writing these match reports. J
Whilst I have been in the club Gavin Young has never won a match but he always has a smile on his face enjoys his fishing and takes it for the day out with friends that it is.
Well today was Gavin’s day on peg 23 he had an excellent days fishing and duly battered/mullered me off next peg chucking his feeder up against the island for 30 odd carp including a few decent uns to slam the needle round to 92lb 5ozs.
It was apt as the 8th club match is the Jubilee cup which I had retained for last 4 years so was one I was really after again this year, but I had no answers and it couldn’t go to a better sideboard especially as it ain’t going on Denny the Chimps or Saddle Sore Sadlers hehehehehe 😉
Well done Gavin a great weight in conditions + a memorable days fishing I’m really pleased for you!
In 2nd place and going like bees wings on feeder and pellet to Island from the start was “Hamper” John who caught a raft of smaller carp to catch 83lb – 13 from peg 7. John is becoming very difficult to keep out the frame of late and was just edged out.
In 3rd place yesterday was none other than “Worms” Ivison from peg 4 again on the tip but into open water with some good fish for 65lb-14ozs. Rumour has it he was helped with 2 edge fish from Holly Farm peg 9 where he was at 7.30am on the day 😉
I managed 4th from peg 22 but had all the toys out with 4 carp on tip mainly bomb , 1 x carp on Pellet Waggler, , 4 on the pole at 8mtrs and 5-6 fish out the margins late on for 60lb-9ozs. I tried up against the island first hour on pellet feeder and my tip just wouldn’t budge… (whilst Gav was catching well)
The sections were awarded as follows:-
1st section pegs 1-12 was won by Mick “No Barrow” on peg 8 (5th in match) with 49lb 15ozs who just edged out “HMP” Holloway by just 6ozs. This could have been the weight of his glasses and pelletshe loosefed in his keepnet J
The 2nd section pegs 14-26 was won by “Poncey” Paul from with 47lb 6ozs beating nearest challenger “Alf Norgrove” with 39lb odd.
For those that didn’t get paid out Paul will sort it out at the next match before draw J
Overall it fished pretty well in the conditions but I struggle to understand how no ripple on the water! yet later on the rain was hammering down and at 45 degrees straight into our fizz in the 20s? Surely the two go hand in hand it rains straight down, or if its at an acute angle there MUST be ripple on the water? (the laws of Physics are weird)
My Match
I fished ok I suppose although I felt I could definitely have grabbed 3rd if I’d made earlier choices a bit different on the day, but its easy after and hindsight is a wonderful thing.
The fish were cute and they were there but more awkward to catch and ripple or wind I feel would have made it easier to amass a weight of fish on the pole.
Overall I am currently struggling to make the tip work on many waters, and as most anglers know confidence is a massive part as I used to expect the tip to go round if carp were in the area. I also felt I could draw fish off other anglers, but now it’s a case of I need to put a bit of practice in again, put some decent nets of feeder caught fish in the net and confidence will be resumed.
The good news was my nemesis Denny “The Chimp” and more latterly “Saddle Sore” Sadler who I have the customary weekly GRUDGE match quid who BOTH got beat and coughed up, and this means FAR FAR more to me than any trophy or club end result. J
Cheers lads……… 😉
At the end we decided to go to the pub for a few sherberts and a natter and a convoy was duly organised by someone so here is how it should look…..
How it did look….. when lead car is Roy going home not to the proposed pub LOL
So imagine my surprise when I walk into the pub and find “Worms” Ivison sat there with half a pint gone? and we know what he’s like with directions if he was a Viking – he’d have invaded Australia by accident instead of Europe as that’s wot his Sat Nav said hehehehehe
Next match bring your crash hats as Gaz “The Spod” is Back and its Fisherwick so your ALL within range.
This date has been proposed as the date for our annual get together and is likely to be Boldemere way, and will involve a load of beers and a curry etc. Alan “SaddleSore” is organising this.
Myself and my Dad and Pete are looking to attend + Denny The “Shandee drinking” Woofter if he aint away skipping with the Mrs. 😉

Todays match was a tough affair and I think everyone expected it to fish better than it did? Whether this was because of the rain that’s gone in or numbers of anglers on the lake who knows – but for most it was very difficult for getting regular bites.
Way way out in front was “Saddle Sore” Sadler with a load of edge fish on the pole for 65lb 8 ounce on corn and pellet to paralyse the match – Good Lad 3 matches won in 2016 and soaring up the league table! WELL DESERVED!
2nd place it was good to see Rob Taylor get in the main frame with a last gasp manic last hour catching lots of carp closer in for 38lb 6 ounce banged on the scales
In 3rd place was “The Chimp” who caught on pole and pellet mainly with 29lb 8 to just edge out a raft of anglers with mid 20 odd pound weights. Denny also managed to beat Roy to progress through to the finals of the Individuals.
4th place and only just behind was the man in form Brian Dennahay with 27lb 3 ounce with a right horse out the edge and one on the whistle as well hehehehe
You always fish to the whistle hehehehe……..
Those that don’t know Brian fishes his local clubbie water and won “GOLDEN peg” a few weeks back well this week he narrowly missed out off golden peg by just 3 OZS
The first section pegs 2-18 was edged by Mick The Fish by 0.5 ozs with 24lb 3ozs
The second section 22 -35 was won by none other than Poncey Paul with 24lb 7 ozs again with loads of close weights around 12 anglers with 20lbs+
Skeg Vegas next weekend which should be a good for the 12 anglers + BONES that’s going!
